Welcome to my new look blog. Many thanks to my amazing OH who has spent almost all his bank holiday helping me with the new layout and banner.
I hope you enjoy looking at my blog & reading about the little things that I do.
I have to admit I had a lot of fun organising the layout & picking out colour schemes, drop shadows, links etc. Now all I have to do is find something else to blog about!
I have to admit that I love this blogging stuff. Not only has it given me a chance to share what I’m doing & find interesting it also means that I look at what other people are doing.
I have felt recently that I want to upgrade my blog from a beginner style to something a bit more professional. So I’ve taken a massive step – I’ve actually paid money for my blog! My very technically minded OH is spending some of his bank holiday having a look at new designs for it so expect a few changes over the next few weeks.
Not only that but I’ve been very jealous of some of the images that I’ve seen on some of my favourite blogs. So I’ve also bought Pixelmator so that I can alter my images to give them a bit of something.
Below is my attempt at vignette. Not bad for a first timer! (I usually do everything, & I mean everything, in Word!) It’s a little basic but I’m just getting to learn all the tools, layers etc. So expect some pimped up pics on here shortly! Right, where’s my camera…
It was my birthday on Monday & despite not feeling much like celebrating I was very spoilt! I didn’t send out a birthday list but I am impressed by all the presents I’ve received. I really am very lucky & very loved.
Upon getting home from work I was greeted by pretty birthday bunting & balloons that my amazingly lovely OH had decorated our dining area with. Not only that but he had my chai ready & waiting to make for me. And he’d bought fancy Waitrose cupcakes with girly little candles in. I was so surprised! (It’s possible that I might have cried a little bit! I’d had a bit of a poo day at work!) I was also promised tea of my choice which is always a Chinese takeaway. Not only that but my Super OH had explored a few takeaways in the area for me to pick my favourite one. It was lush!
My presents were all displayed on the kitchen table ready for me to open. I was really amazed by the generosity of my family & friends (including you Mum!) I got some really amazing presents including some sew-your-own Owls (complete with home), make your own candles, some super lush Jo Malone Red Roses perfume, Double Stuff Oreo’s & a beautiful bottle of Hendricks Gin. I cannot wait to have a go at making all these things & eating my oreos while drinking some lush gin.
However, the present of the day came from my lovely OH. I have been going on about Mollie Makes magazine for ages since it exploded over Twitter. I’ve been looking for the first one but to no avail. Not only have I now got a subscription but I actually have a copy of the magazine, which I am going to read through as soon as I’ve finished this blog post. I was so shocked to open it up! Outstanding!
About two Christmases ago I felt that I needed to have a hobby & learn a new skill. I wanted to do something that was completely different to my day job. So I signed up to silver jewellery making for beginners through Oxfordshire Adult Learning. I’d previously attended classes for watercolours & Indian cookery, which I enjoyed but haven’t been back to those since. Jewellery making, however, is a different story. I’m attending my third term & will definitely be signing up when the new classes are released in the summer. I’ve not only learnt new skills but I’ve made some pretty nice jewellery in the process! So far I’ve made two pairs of earrings, a green amber ring & a bracelet.
I am in the process of making two different necklaces – one for me & one for a present. I have about five ideas of what to do once they are finished & I’ve only got about five classes left until the summer break! But I love it. It’s something that I want to continue doing. It’s great seeing my skills develop over time. The more I solder my silver together the better I get at it. One day I hope to be good enough at it so that I can have my own Folksy or Etsy page and be able to sell some of my pieces. I’m a long way off that yet but a girl can dream…
