#BEDM – Passion Projects

One thing that has been a constant love in my life has been stationery and it is my dream to open a stationery shop. I would fill it with lots of brightly filled stationery that was designed to help you be organised and plan for pretty much everything you needed. Last week I received some stationery from Viking. I was able to pick a few things that would be useful. Here’s what I picked:

stationery1. Stabilo felt tip pens 2. Post-it Full Adhesive notes 3. A4 Headbound notepads

In my view, you can never have too many post-it notes and I’d never seen these before. (I’ve been going through a self-imposed stationery shopping ban!) These are excellent and they stick to walls without falling off. This is great news as I’ve always used post-it notes for reminders, prompts, planning and organising. Plus, these are small enough that I can also use them in my filofax and on my computer. I am in love with these post-it notes. Seriously.

pensI am pretty picky about my pens. I hate when ink goes through the page so I use specific pens in my filofax. However, when I’m brainstorming, I want colour and a pen with a bit of weight behind it. So I got this Stabilo range. I love them! There’s such a great range of colours and they are great for planning. I used them straight away to plan some blog ideas and some WordPress sites I’ve been working on and this is why I also got some A4 notepads. I don’t like notepads that are bound on the side and don’t even get me started on ring bound pads. *shudders* I like to be able to use both of the sides of the paper and being able to make notes and draw things out so A4 pads are essential.

getting organisedI started using the pens and post-it notes straight away, planning my ideas and sticking them on my wall. I can’t put into words how much fun I had writing these notes out! This is why I’d like to open my own stationery shop so that I could spend my whole day being surrounded by brightly coloured stationery. Plus, think how much stationery I’d have to use running an actual shop?!

In all seriousness, I am taking a course on hand lettering as I’d love to be able to design my own stationery. I’ve designed a few inserts for my Filofax so when I’ve perfected them, it might be the start of a whole new stationery empire! Watch this space! How about you? Is there one thing you’d love to do?

Disclosure: I was sent the items to review, but all opinions are my own.

#BEDM – Cinco de Mayo or What I’ve been Eating recently

So for yesterday’s #BEDM post, I know absolutely nothing about Cinco de Mayo and have nothing in common with Mexico so I thought I’d write up a few recipes I’ve been trying recently.

Veggie Cooked Breakfast

Veggie breakfastThis is based on the breakfast that I had recently at Companion in Oxford. In a bid to get as many vegetables in as possible, I went totally overboard with the cooked tomatoes and mushrooms. Delicious!

Spicy Tomato Soup

I found this recipe via Pinterest and it was delicious. It was such a simple recipe, really easy to cook and tastes amazing. I also made some wholemeal rolls to eat with it. It was the perfect lunch.

Sweet and Sour Tofu

Sweet and sour tofu

This was another Pinterest find but it was a bit of a disappointment. The veg was lovely and the recipe was easy to follow, there just wasn’t enough flavour in it. If you know of a good sweet and sour tofu recipe, let me know, because it’s my favourite meal! I also made egg fried rice to go with the tofu. I cooked up some brown rice then added it to a pan with sesame oil, soy sauce and a beaten egg. It was delicious!

Hot and Spicy Tofu

In a bid to find more tofu recipes, I gave this one a whirl over the weekend. Found via Pinterest, it’s a great recipe and is nice and spicy, which is how I like it! It’s a really easy recipe to follow. It definitely needed a bit more of something, maybe more vegetables or something, as I could’ve eaten a second portion very easily.

Finally, I also made lamb burgers & sweet potato wedges for my OH. I was going to make myself a burger but didn’t fancy it at all. Sadly I forgot to take a picture, but my OH was really impressed with the burgers. He doubted them originally, thinking they might be really bland, but he really liked them and we’ve had the meal a few times since. The feta and mint goes really well with the sweet potato wedges too. I still haven’t found a good, simple, tasty veggie burger recipe so if you know of one, please let me know!

#BEDM: My Favourite Posts

Well, hello again and happy Friday! I don’t know about you but I am so looking forward to a long weekend. I know we just had one, but I’ve been working like a crazy person this week. I’ve got a weekend of crafting planned – how about you?

So todays Blog Everyday in May post is supposed to be a round up of my favourite posts. I found this really difficult because I can only really remember the last few posts I’ve written! I had a little look through and in no particular order, here they are:

How to Completely Change Your Garden

wall

This is one of my favourite posts because it shows the huge transformation our garden has taken. Our garden is not quite finished yet, but it has taken a lot of blood, sweat, tears and swears to overhaul. Thanks to the current weather, it’s perfect for weeds, which seem to have overtaken every space possible so I guess it’s nearly time to get out there and tackle it head on. The finishing line is in sight…

Hand Knitted Hat

I chose this post because it records quite an epic achievement for me – knitting my own hat. Not as simple as it sounds, this hat had a number of stitches that I’d never used before and had to get some help. It remains my favourite hat of all time!

Tuesday Treat – New Stationery

post it notes

My weekly Tuesday Treat series covers a range of topics, but this one sticks out in my mind for two reasons: 1. It was written this week and 2. It was written from the heart. I was completely giddy about my new stationery, so much so that I haven’t stopped using it all week and it really made me happy. The post didn’t take long to write at all, which is always a sign of a good post I think.

Friday Cake Day

Friday Cake Day Cupcake

I had to include this one. It’s my first ever post all about baking cakes for work. I had no idea that I started this blog in 2011, it feels like its been a constant companion for much longer, but it’s only been three years. I’ve learnt such a lot about blogging since then, but this post comes from a completely place… just me, writing about what I was up to, not really expecting anyone other than my Mum (Hi Mum!) to read it. What a journey!

Poppy

Poppydog

This one’s a bit of a cheat, as it’s not one post, but a category. I love writing about Poppy. She cracks me up on a daily basis, whether she’s attempting to roll in fox poo or playing with her chicken, howling as I’m putting my shoes or snorting at a passerby, she’s bloody brilliant! I feel so blessed to have her as part of our family and I love sharing her little adventures on my blog.

How about you? Do you have a favourite topic that you love reading or writing about? Are you taking part in #BEDM? If so, let me know!

It’s been a tough week…

It started on Sunday with having a really bad back, which took days to right itself (though it’s painful again today). Then work kicked off big style, including moving this blog to a new host, which meant downtime & database ‘issues’, which translate to me not having ticked a box, when I should have. At least it was an easy fix, even if it took a while figuring it out. Then today I had to take my car for it’s MOT & service. While it passed everything, it needs repairs that I cannot afford. Hello credit card. Not what you want just before Christmas. I have been exhausted all week & after the database issue, I have not felt like blogging at all. I’ve been too tired to do any crafting in the evening, so it’s just as well I finished off my second & final homemade gift at the beginning of the week. I do feel a sense of impending doom as Christmas approaches. There’s always so much to do, even though we’re not hosting but I want everything to be right and for us all to relax as much as possible. I’m actually in denial about how close Christmas is! Even my pretty desk flowers aren’t doing much to pick me up 🙁

desk flowersI think part of it is the darkness. Not only is it getting dark so early on in the day, but the room I spend the day in is in the darkest part of the house and has no ceiling light. This means I have to rely on lamps, which never seem to give out enough light & I feel like I’m working in shadow for most of the day. How I haven’t had a crying fit yet is a miracle! So tonight, I’m going to dive into a vat of wine and spend most of tomorrow on the sofa, drinking mulled wine, eating chocolate, doing a bit of Christmas decorating and watching Christmas films. Elf arrived on Blu Ray this morning so am looking forward to watching that tomorrow.

Are you in the festive spirit yet? Or are you like me, a bit Bah Humbug & just looking forward to the time off & putting your feet up?
