I don’t think I’ve had too many ‘Yes’ moments. I spend most of my time worrying about stuff I can’t control (and yes, I know how pointless that is). But I did have quite a moment not long after my Nana died. I realised how short life is and that you probably shouldn’t waste it doing things that you don’t enjoy. Obviously, you have to do some things you don’t like, for me that would be going to the dentist. Hello panic attack. But on the whole, you should do things that make you happy as much as you can. Because life is hard and very short so don’t waste it on doing things you hate. No one will thank you for that, least of all you.
It’s not long until Christmas. I used to love Christmas. I’d look forward to it for ages. Then I went through quite a stressful situation at work and sorting Christmas was just another thing on my to do list, so that kind of sucked the joy out of it. Since then, it’s just a chance to put my feet up. Yep. I’m not going to get stressed about Christmas, after all, it’s a day off! All I want to do on Christmas day is see people I like, eat as much as I can guilt free & enjoy some festive tiples from the moment I wake until I fall asleep.
I won’t make a Christmas cake and am hoping to get through this Christmas making as little food as possible, though consuming plenty! To be honest, I’m a little surprised that it’s this close to Christmas. It won’t surprise you that I’ve not bought a single thing. There’s still a month though right?! Previously I’ve tried to make things for people, but to do that, you pretty much need to start just after the last one. Let me tell you, I’m not that organised!
We haven’t really established many traditions since we’ve been celebrating Christmas together, though we do buy a new tree ornament every year, like this one we bought in Iceland. We also always get a real Christmas tree from Appleton Christmas Barn, where they’re locally sourced. I am worried about how Poppy will react to the tree for two reasons. 1. She likes to try things out by trying to eat them or poking them with her nose. 2. Her tail is mega long. She has been known to clear a table when wagging it. This could end in tears!
One tradition we’ll start this year, is going for a post-Christmas lunch dog walk with Poppy. I have my fingers firmly crossed that it’ll be a white Christmas, though not so white we won’t be able to get to lunch! How about you? Do you make all your presents? Did you make your Christmas cake & pudding yesterday?
For me, the thing that motivates me every day is chickens. Yep. Chickens. I want to have my own chickens one day. That means moving to a bigger house, with a bigger garden, preferably rural or near the sea. I want to create a little oasis for me, my OH, Poppy, any and all future animals that may join our little family. I’ve written about previously here. The dream of wanting something else, something different, our own little rural idyll, is what gets me up everyday. Even on those dark days. That and Poppy needing the loo!
For me, the perfect date would be a traiditional dinner and a movie kind of date. Right now, I’d love to see The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and have dinner at Atomic Burger.
I loved the whole Hunger Games series – couldn’t put them down so am really keen to see the second installment. I know lots of people didn’t rate the first film because of how much of the book it left out, but that’s often the case with films taken from books. I enjoyed the first film and I’m pretty sure I’ll enjoy this one too! Can’t wait to see it.
Dinner would have to be at Atomic Burger, where I’d have my usual veggie burger with BBQ sauce & jalapenos and a side of fries. Maybe even a cheeky milkshake! They do the best veggie burger I’ve ever tasted and unlike a lot of places, they actually make a veggie patty. They don’t fob you off with a bloomin’ mushroom. Restaurants, please note, a mushroom is not a veggie burger. It is a mushroom! No such issue at Atomic Burger! The food is always delicious, just make sure you book, especially on the weekend.
Then it would be home to enjoy a lovely glass or two of red wine on the sofa in front of the fire with Poppy! Perfect!
