Review – Papa John’s #CampaignForBetterPizza

Pizza is one of my favourite foods. It’s so easy and convenient and takes minimum effort, especially if you get a take away one. Where I live in Oxfordshire, we’re spoilt for choice for good pizza, either from a range of local independent pizzerias to national ones that deliver, meaning you can order your pizza in your pjs!

It came as little surprise to me, therefore, that a recent study showed that Oxford consumes more pizza than anywhere else in the UK. Not only that, Oxfordians demand quality from their pizza, spending more than anywhere else, per pizza. So when Papa John’s contacted me and asked if I’d like to have some (c/o) pizza to review and enjoy a relaxing night in, I jumped at the chance. There’s nothing I like more than vegging out on the sofa, with a good DVD and delicious food!

Papa Johns Pizza

I was really impressed with the veggie options available and ordered a Garden pizza for myself, with extra jalapeños and The Greek for my partner, knowing we’d share a slice or two. Both were delicious. We opted for the thin crust base, which was really good, as it wasn’t too thin and really filling. I even had enough left over for lunch the next day! I really liked the tomato sauce too. It was really tasty and there was plenty of it. After a long day at work, it was just what I needed – especially as my partner went to pick it up, meaning I had plenty of time to get comfy on the sofa in preparation for my pizza feast!

Garden Pizza

One thing I didn’t realise about Papa John’s pizza was that they offer a no-quibble ‘Quality Guarantee’ and in the unlikely event that you’re not totally satisfied with your Papa John’s pizza, you can request a replacement completely free of charge! How good is that? This Bank Holiday weekend, to recognise Oxford’s love of pizza, Papa John’s are extending their ‘Quality Guarantee’ for one weekend only (from Saturday 2nd May – Monday 4th May) and pledge that if a customer is not 100% happy with the quality of their pizza from another national pizza delivery chain, Papa John’s will replace it like-for-like, free of charge and no questions asked.

To claim the offer, Oxford residents must visit www.campaignforbetterpizza.co.uk. An online proof of purchase receipt must be submitted with the claim to qualify for a free replacement pizza (T’s & C’s apply. Check the website for details). Don’t live in Oxford but want a pizza bargain? Non-Oxford pizza lovers can get 50% off when you spend £15 or more. Just click the link above. Not a bad way to celebrate the Bank Holiday weekend eh? Let me know which pizza you’d opt for.

*Disclosure: I was sent the pizza for review purposes, along with a DVD and board game. As ever, opinions are my own.

Secret Pizza Society Awesomeness!

Last Sunday, my OH, Poppy & I went to the MG event in Abingdon. We didn’t go for the cars, we went to support local businesses who were there for the day. It was a really hot day & the sun was out. It was more a day for lounging around in the shade, not so much a day for coffees & pizzas, but that didn’t stop us.

We had a look around at some of the different stalls & took a walk down by the river, where Poppy got lots of love from passers by. Then we headed to the main attraction – coffee from Throwing Buns & pizza from the guys at Secret Pizza Society. We’ve been fans of Throwing Buns since we moved to Abingdon. We love that place. Great food, good location & fab coffee. Secret Pizza Society are the new kids on the block and they are incredibly hard working! If you follow their twitter feed, then you’ll be able to find out where they’re going to popping up and making great pizza. And by great pizza, I mean one of the best I’ve ever tasted.

spsI went for a simple margarita pizza. Now, I’ve eaten a lot of pizza in my time & lots of places produce bland cheese & tomato pizza. As it’s a fairly simple one, you have to make sure all the ingredients pack a punch with great flavours. This pizza did that. It was really tasty, the tomato sauce was full of flavour, the base wasn’t too thick, but delicious and crispy. I can’t wait to see what other veggie offerings they’ll bring to the mix!

If you see Secret Pizza Society out and about near where you work, live or hang out, do yourself a favour & buy one of their pizzas! Not only are they local people, building a delicious independent business, but they also make amazing pizza!

Golden Ticket

Popeye at Atomic Pizza

Tonight I was lucky enough to attend the launch of Atomic Pizza. Now if you’re a regular reader you’ll know how much I love Atomic Burger. So when my OH secured a Golden Ticket for the launch night I was super excited.

Popeye at Atomic PizzaIt wasn’t quite what I expected, having picked out my choice of pizza from the menu. But it was great to try so many different pizzas (half of the pizzas are veggie!), especially as I always go for the same thing once I’ve settled on it!

There were loads more people there than I expected. And it got hot…really hot. So hot I had to take my cardi off. (And those of you who know me know how hot it must’ve been!). It was a shame, as some people didn’t have seats (I did!) & that combined with the heat, along with the fact that the pizza wasn’t distributed evenly meant that some people left before getting to sample hardly anything. I can imagine how difficult it must’ve been trying to launch a restaurant & satisfy very high expectations. It wasn’t so much of a lack of pizza either – they made 85! I was a little disappointed that I didn’t get to try the Godzilla, as I will never go for the challenge! But I think my mouth is a little relieved by this!

That being said, there was a good atmosphere & the place looked great. With a free drink upon arrival & enough free pizza to fill my tum (though not my OH’s) it was a fab night. This is kind of a mini-blog because it wasn’t a normal dining experience. I will be back, very soon, to pick my own pizza, maybe even a starter & will do a full on review.

Thank you so much Atomic Pizza for having me. Love the place & will be seeing you soon x
