Tuesday Treat – Good Health Box

Last week, I wrote about Earthmiles, which is a great way to earn rewards and discounts off a huge array of healthy goodies. One of the rewards I spent some of my earthmiles on was a Good Health Box. Since becoming vegan, I’ve had to change some of what I eat, mostly in a positive way, but there is an awful lot of accidentally vegan junk food out there and that’s not good for my waist line. When I saw the Good Health Box on Earthmiles, I thought I’d give it a go. I do love a good box of goodies, whether they’re paper based or delicious treats. It’s always a good way to find new products.

Good Health Box

This box arrived towards the end of a very long day in the middle of a very long week before half term. When I got home, I was proper hangry and dived straight in to the coconut flapjack, which was lush, and had the Pulsin brownie (made of fruit!) for pudding. I’d definitely have both again. I wasn’t a fan of the naked toffee nibbles, though think they’d be great in porridge or something like that. The Good Health Box enables you to pick between a vegan, gluten free, protein or health box. There are two different sizes (the above is the smaller size) and there’s also a design your own box, where you can pick your own contents, though this is only available in the larger size. Prices range from £17.50 to £32, though I paid less for mine because of my Earthmiles reward. You can get just one trial box, which I did, or sign up to monthly boxes. A great way to treat yourself to something healthy!

National Vegetarian Week and Freedom Mallows

Happy #VeggieWeek everyone! I’ve been a vegetarian for over 10 years now and there isn’t much I miss. Not bacon, not steak, not turkey at Christmas. Occasionally I wouldn’t mind a tuna sandwich and until I found out you could get vegetarian fizzy cola bottles, I missed those too. I used to love Flumps but found that veggie marshmallows couldn’t really compete so gave up on them years ago. So when I was asked to review (c/o) Freedom Mallows, I was eager to try them. And what better way than to have some in a hot chocolate!

hot cho

I’ve been trying Choc Shot recently too as I’ve struggled to find a low calorie hot chocolate that wasn’t full of nasties. I was sent a mixture of micro and regular sized mallows and after an hour and a half of ironing, I decided I deserved a treat.

Warm milk

We don’t have a microwave so I heated up my soya milk on the stove. I was making enough for my OH too – as soon as I said mallows, he said he wanted in! I use unsweetened soya milk and use it in everything. It works perfectly and as it doesn’t have much flavour, it takes on flavours really well.

veggie marshmallows

Once I’d made my hot chocolate and my OH’s horlicks, I added a handful of the micro mallows to each cup. They were amazing! And perfect for snacking on while the milk is heating too.

marshmallow hot chocThe regular sized mallows are just as delicious and perfect for non-veggies too, as my OH loves them too. They’re quite sweet, so I can’t eat too many of them, which is probably a good thing! I’d like to try them in a cake too so if you have any good recipes that include marshmallows, then let me know!

Disclosure: I was sent the Freedom Mallows to review, but as always, my opinion is my own.

My Birthday Wish List

I want things all the time. I pin them, blog about them, tweet about them & Facebook them. But when my birthday comes around & people say, ‘What would you like for your birthday?’ my mind goes blank! So I thought I’d spend some time thinking about what I’d really like, something that I would really enjoy. I’d like a mixture of treats, practical things as well as things I can do. So here goes!

Cross Stitch Kit

Sewing KitI’ve wanted this cross stitch kit for ages! Our walls are a little bit bare, since I’ve been terrified to put anything up on our newly plastered walls! (They were redone when we moved in – 3 years ago!) But I think this would go quite nicely with something I’m working on.

Bespoke Lampshade Workshop

lampshade class

We desperately need some new lampshades, but I really want to have a go at making my own. I’d love to go to a lampshade workshop to learn how to do it – at least that way I’d have at least one new shade to hang in the house!

Apothecary Jar

Now I don’t really need this, but I love it! And I’ve already thought about all the different beautiful flowers that could go in it. Perfect for bringing a bit of the outside in.

PeoniesPeonies are my favourite flower. They are so cheerful & remind me of summer. I’m definitely going to plant a peony bush in the garden when we get around to it, but for now I’d settle for a small bunch of them!

Succulent Plants

I am obsessed with succulents at the moment. They seem to be everywhere! I’ve got a few containers that would look great with succulents in them. Plus I’m thinking that they’re easy to take care of, which is a very good thing as far as I’m concerned!

Dr Martens – Boots

DMBootsSince we adopted Poppy, we’re doing a lot more walking. I’d love a new pair of Dr Martens to go out in. I can remember having a few pairs of these when I was a teenager – so wish I hadn’t thrown them out!

Dr Martens – Bag

I still need a bag big enough to carry my laptop in as well as all my bag stuff. I hate having to carry lots of bags, but I need a stylish bag that can hold as much stuff as Mary Poppin’s carpet bag!

Veggie Fizzy Cola Bottles

Veggie Fizzy cola bottlesThese were my favourite sweets as a kid – my pick’n’mix bag was always full of them! But since turning veggie, they’re really hard to come by so I save them for birthday treats. Lush!

Sipsmith Gin

GinI love a good G&T in the Summer! Sitting in the garden, with a good book & the sun going down, and a delicious G&T in my glass! What could be better?!

Gilmore Girls – Season 2

I am a HUGE Gilmore Girls fan! I love the place, the people & want to move there! I’ve only got Season 1 on DVD so I need to add the next one to my collection!

The Walking Dead – Season 2

I am also completely obsessed with zombies & am a huge fan of the Walking Dead. I’m devastated that I can’t watch Season 3 yet because we don’t have the right channel so for the moment, I’d like the Season 2 box set to keep me going.

If I had to choose one thing though, I think I’d have to go for the peonies! They are just so lovely! I also definitely want cake and lots of it! How about you? What one thing do you want for your next birthday?

Christmas Cake

Christmas Cake

Last year, someone in work gave me a recipe for a Christmas cake. I never got around to making it last year but this year I was determined to make one. After realising I needed brandy, I finally got everything measured out. The recipe I had showed you how to change the amount of ingredients dependent on the size of your tin. So after not receiving all the ingredients in my shopping delivery and rejigging the ingredients to compensate, I got to it.

It was surprisingly easy. Preparing the ingredients was easy and it didn’t take long to mix up. As I was pouring in the mixture, it became clear that the tin was quite small. So after some frantic texting to my Mum, she said that it would be fine to use a second tin. She even said that, traditionally,a taster cake would be made so it looks like my OH and I have a lovely fruit cake to eat! At least this way, I’ll know if it tastes okay! Now all I have to do is to add the brandy. How much is too much?!
